You just dick around doing sidequests or catching Pokemon in the mornings, then you grind night time trainer battles in order to do the next boss fight to unlock more wild areas and side quests.
It gives you a lot of extremely powerful Pokemon very early on, but leaves a lot of the Kalos shitmons like Helioptile or Furfrou until the latter half of the game. I haven't even seen Drampa or Fallinks yet.
Also, there's no alternate forms of transportation. You're either walking or fast traveling everywhere, and this city does not do much to vary up its locations.
