>>56973540DP is overall consistent with both. The Sinnoh League is phenomenal and DP was the first time that the battle mechanics were actually adhered too (even with characteristic anime-adaptive fuckery).
Kanto had a fun League, but most of the Gyms were pity wins. Johto's League was okay (Ash vs. Gary was disappointing, though Ash vs. Harrison was tight) but the Gyms were nothing to write home about. AG had a great League and the Battle Frontier, but the Gyms were full of dipshit logic. BW isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but the League really is a trainwreck. XY's Gym Battles are all great, but the League itself feels empty. There's no lower or midcard, so Ash vs. Sawyer and Ash vs. Alain don't feel earned. SM's Kahuna battles are good, but the League is...well, the Alola League. They overcompensated from Kalos feeling empty to overloading. JN had Ash vs. Leon and that's mostly it that's worth talking about.
