>>53730726it seems that AG was the end of "The old plot" Many former plot devices were never brought up again after AG, and some were even retconned by later actions.
DP seemed to be the start of an entirely new "long-term plot" that would take place over multiple seasons, we had so many long-term plot elements introduced in DP that were then later scrapped or reworked, like Dawn(who, yes was meant to be long term for Ash(this is not a shipping post), Cynthia and the champion league, an over arcing plot with TR, the international police(looker) and a few other things. But then at the last minute, they were all scraped for whatever reason. Ash was reset etc and the series entered a stale run for BW.
then in XY we see yet again them wanting to introduce another all-new "long-term plot" with edgy Ash, Serena, more new characters, and more story elements that appeared to be longer-term multi-season stories.
then SM happened, and more of the same
and finally, JN seemed to want to "merge" all the stories from across the seasons. Did it work? not really. but we did see them revert to the DP-timeline story for the season.
as for MPM, it flopped with no other way of saying it.
What happen? why did they drop so many long-term plots from the series? why did they keep "resetting" Ash?
I'm certain that there are many reasons for this, but I think it comes down to mainly a few big reasons.
1. Pokemon became too corporate, Ash is an icon. He can never age or really do/go anywhere than what was already established. It would be too risky for branding etc. We see this in how they seemingly also reinforce that "Ash is 10 years old and will never age" and in how his "ending" was more of putting him away until he's needed.
2. different directors. over the seasons the directors definitely had different visions they had for the series, Yayuma being pretty hands-off gave them the freedom to do as they pleased even if it went agist already established lore.
