It gives you the EXACT same ending that JN gave us which was a really shitting thing to due to your fans. I remember them(the staff) saying that MPM was really only made to stall for time until HZ got closer. Both end with Ash leaving for a new adventure with no-long change being made, only that he's still adventuring. I know that fans did not like it, and I can imagine the writers were not happy with that ending either.
Again, for shipping there is no winner, Misty did not win, Serena did not win, and no one won in the end.
its best either to view the Ashime as a collection of separate one-off stories and end it at JN or read fanfiction for your preferred ending, because in all actuality its fanfiction is better than the nothing burger of what we actually got.
It's really sad to see that after all this time, that we still have so many questions unanswered.
