>>53472642>How did you feel about MPM? I find it strange.>Many complaints about OS pandering, but I don't think that's whats going on here. OS/Kanto Pandering is the easiest thing to do in the world. If you asked every 90s kid on earth how pokemon should end they'd probably all give half of the same answers. Ash turns 11, bangs [girl], catches mewthree, meets his dad ect.>This didn't seem like pandering to OS, this seemed like an actual fade out epilogueIf you can overlook the different art style (which I didn't personally find to be too much of an issue), it certainly had the look of OS pandering, and obviously tons of call backs/references. But the atmosphere and writing just aren't what it was.
While I'm sure that's in part a result of real world changes (i.e. it's not the exact same crew making OS and MPM), you can also chalk that up to how Ash's character has been changed. In the OS everyone's personality quirks would bounce off one another. But with 1/3 of the trio basically transformed into Pokejesus, there's not much opportunity for that.
Realistically, it didn't go that hard on wish fulfillment for OS fans. But I don't think the show has the freedom to really give the old heads what they want (to see his future), because that requires aging him up to be someone who can relate more to the people who watched the show 20 years ago.
I can respect that the parameters of the anime don't allow for that, and I understand that this was meant to be a bunch of loosely connected stories, rather than a last arc for Ash. But even then, I don't think it was particularly well executed.
