I have a good guess that MPM was a scrapped sendoff from Post Season 5,but just got digged out, dumped all pokemon Ash caught over years into the 11 episodes with Cilan getting stuffed somewhere and some plot adjustments as a broader reach.
MPM catches the OS-sentiment, but fucking sucks as the whole finale really hard.
