This. They went into PM thinking it would be like any other series of Ash with a brand new team and new companions. Sometime during the pre planning for the next series they decided to move on from Ash, hence all of the fan services since mid-2021. If they knew from the start that Ash was done after this series, I think the format would have looked more like MPM. The main storyline would have been Ash PWC arc mixed with the usually episodic episodes featuring him with his old companions. I don't think they would have bothered with Go and Koharu.

Is it? I thought it basically picked up after PM136, with Ash and Pikachu continuing down the path they took after parting ways with Goh. Then again, the last scene in PM136 shows Ash in some town somewhere, so Idk...

it's been 13 years since the end of DP, 17 years since the end of AG (Battle Frontier) and more than 20 years since Johto (where Kingler, Muk, etc were last used).

There's been 3 series after DP. Wasn't that enough time for new Pokemon? Journeys was supposed to be a celebration of the 25th anniversary, and Pokemon Go (a game about catching a variety of Pokemon).

Uh bear with me here it's a bit complicated
Most twitterkeks are not calling this series MPM, but rather as a continuation of JN special episodes
"JNS06" is "PM special episode 6", and thats why the "JN137" is in parentheses, he's functionally calling PM a continuation of JN

I can't believe /padt/ (including the hype threads) are turning 10 this year. I still clearly remember the early days of the hype threads, including XY's premiere and stuff related to that. I've seen the highs and lows of the anime since then, and I've seen the threads go from XY to SM to PM and now MPM plus the new series. It all feels surreal that I've been in the threads since the very beginning and this year will be the 10th anniversary of the beginning.

My guess is Cilan was saved for MPM because it has a separate budget than Journeys and they couldnt afford him then but can now.

Maybe a similar situation with Tracey.

A big theme of MPM seems to be "we're going full circle" so him battling Gary again would make sense. After all, Ash's companions this time are Misty and Brock, which seems part of the "it's ending how it began" theme.
