From my experience Mayfags and Dawnfags have tended to be chill apart from a few bad apples. I can imagine they were worse back when AG and DP were new but right now they're pretty tame. The abrasive ones have usually been Mistyfags and Serenafags along with a few Lilliefags.

I think that partially has to do with the games being faulty more than anything. Also, because it's a remake it's just easy to ignore the new look and go with the old.

ORAS came and went but I rarely see Mayfags comment on the resdesign, because the redesign doesn't have massive tits or come from a childhood experience. If anything, turning ORAS May and Lisia into contest idol sluts probably trigger them.

Like i said, you won't hate a ship this this amount of burning passion unless you were a shipper yourself. Other ash-shippers know what their ship is non-existent and never had a war with amourfags. It was always the mistyautists and this much is self-evident if you've been in the fandom since 2013. Mayfags and dawnfags have never really hated serena or her crush and those that do are a handful and don't make up the majority.
