It was SM that brought in this weird ass tribalism where everyone supposedly had to pick one series to identify as a fan of and then get into genwars with fans of something else, and it mostly started with them realizing that the people that didn't like SM seemed to like XY and then started furiously shitting on XY as "revenge" for "XYfags" shitting on "their" series. The fact that these evil XYfags also liked other series (and in general held XY and DP together as the pinnacle of the show) never really seemed to register.
