>>34492066I might be wrong about this, but I remember seeing an infographic like a year ago on /vp/ which showed that prior to 2013 (and thus prior to Gen 6), well over 60% of all shipping-related content (or maybe it was just fanfiction) in the Pokémon fandom was AshxMisty, with AshxMay and AshxDawn, among others, being in the teens each, or lower. AshxSerena, since Gen 6 wasn't out yet, was obviously at 0%.
Cut to 2016, right as XYZ is ending and Sun/Moon is about to be released, and that same infographic had AshxMisty down from ~60% to ~30% and AshxSerena up from 0% to ~30%. That was only in 3 years.
In short, AshxSerena shippers managed to create in just 3 years as much shipping-related content (or, again, it might've just been fanfiction) as AshxMisty created in ~18 years (if we set their start date at 1998). Serenafags celebrated like a conquering army about to overthrow the dominant ship of nearly 2 decades and Mistyfags responded by acting like they were being conquered and were about to lose their long-held dominant status to newbies.
If anyone has the infographic I'm thinking about, I'd like to see it again; mainly because I might be misremembering everything and just want to be sure. Otherwise, everything I've just written might be complete bullshit.
