That and their unwarranted hate of other girls,It's because the vast majority of them only watched the anime when they were kids, most of them barely watched Johto, then got back into the franchise when they were teenagers and were shocked Misty was gone, and then were stupid enough to believe the entire pokemon franchise was about Misty so they went beserk on forums, constantly claiming the anime sucked, had to get canceled or every girl was terrible, etc.
Some of them eventually calmed down and realized how stupid they were, but you can still find some psychotic ones if you search hard enough. To be fair most of them are diagnosed with autism/aspergers syndrome, like Weedle, so they can't coherently understand why Misty is now irrelevant to over 70% of the animes run
