>>44093059Zoey has a tomboyish look, dresses in gender-neutral or masculine clothing, and her strongest relationships with the series are with Dawn (as she goes out of her way to help Dawn become a better coordinator, to show her what she is doing wrong and how to improve) that may or may not have romantic undertones, and Candice (her senpai). Zoey's team of Pokemon, unlike other female characters in the series, are not designed to be cute or friendly. Her most "feminine" Pokemon is Mismagius due to its witch motifs, but it isn't an overtly cute or feminine looking Pokemon. Most curiously, Zoey caught a male Kirlia, evolved him into a Gallade, and later used that Gallade along with Glameow against Dawn. Gallade is a male-only species that evolved from Pokemon that have a feminized appearance (Ralts line). Gallade also has a similar design as the coordinator suits that Zoey wears, and he is hinted at being Zoey's actual signature Pokemon (not Glameow). Zoey fights her mentee, her fellow rival, and possibly her love interest, using Pokemon that represents her heart and soul the most - the Glameow that was her starter that she saved as a little girl from death, and Zoey's answer to Dawn's Piplup; and Gallade, a Pokemon that only appeared on-screen one other time despite Mismagius and Gastrodon being much more prominent members of her team. Zoey used her more powerful Pokemon, the ones that had the strongest compatibility with each other, and the ones she invested the most into their techniques and combinations, against Nando. Zoey judged Nando as the stronger opponent over Dawn, and the one she had to use her full power against. She couldn't win if she resorted to Glameow. Against Dawn, her inexperienced junior with whom she has the strongest feelings for, and knowing Dawn will use Piplup against her, Zoey responds in kind with her starter Glameow, and her other Pokemon that represents Zoey herself. In a way, she reinds me of Sailor Uranus.
