Nemona is the champion of Paldea, an actual Pokémon anime would have shown how strong she is by steamrolling a literal who like Roy just like Cynthia did against Paul and Iris. Instead Horizons choose to turn the entire Paldea into a joke just to shill Roy because nobody cares about him.

But again you think every anime has to be like cringe Isekai where MC only train in one episode and rest of show is about him steamrolling everybody. This is why you dislike Ash, he represents real world effort and not your wish fullfillment fantasy.

Usually they actually only like 2 or 3 or so ships at most, but then feel the urge to pair everyone else up to "make sense" of where everyone else stands in their universe. Looking at their fics in the order they were written, it seems they started off just shipping Dawn and Paul together in their own story, and then went full autism from there with their "main" story, while running a second DawnxPaul story on the side, which funnily enough got more traction than their "main" one lol. Actually, since it's a two-author project, without digging too deep into the autism, I'll guess an AshxMisty shipper and a DawnxPaul shipper decided to make a universe, and in order to justify their ships, they had to explain away everyone else.

ngl this is why I personally like one-shot fics better, because you don't get the bloat that makes a story and its universe unwieldy.

I'm just delighted one sperg unable to handle himself led to an entire board of spergs similarly believing this was "their" moment. That's why Game Freak catered to actually finishing the story and making a game with NO canon champion and a new league, to anoint Ash properly (because again, even if he'd won XY league, he'd have gotten bodied by Diantha. They DID have to pull bullshit to avoid outright pancaking the Dark type weak to Fairy. Contrast Cynthia just outright bodying Paul with no recourse).

Yeeeeeah, you're pretty much reaching to make your points here. Ash wanted to be a pokemon master before he met Gary. He wants to do it because that's what he wants, not because of a need to prove himself. Brock became a gym leader to take care of his family, he pursues his dreams (different than ambitions) when he gains freedom.

Paul is the only one of your examples where it's explicit that his goal is directly related to a misguided attempt to set right what he thinks is wrong. Becoming champion is itself not his goal, but a step on the path to his goal. His goal is to fix his brother issues. His ambition is just an unhealthy way to deal with his problems and this is reflected in his attitude.

Mostly to people who disrespect or went against his ideals. To other people he was curt or respectful. If Ash wasn't a dick to Paul then Paul might have been less of a dick to Ash.

Many ambitions stem from insecurity. Ash was bullied, now he wants to be a pokemon master. Brock's parents split apart and abandoned their gym and children, now he wants to marry a good woman and be a professional pokemon caretaker. Paul watched his brother give up and waste his talent after losing, now he wants to reach as far as he can no matter the hardship and bring out the full potential of talented pokemon on the way.
Each are respectable and firm ambitions regardless of their origin.

I might have called him anti-friendship but that was only to emphasize the fact that pokemon are willing to put up with hardasses. You're treating Paul like a fucking anti-christ when at worst he was a hardass coach. I could have just as easily cited Giovanni, Ghetsis, or any other villain who genuinely treats pokemon like dirt. And the reason I brought up the fact of legendaries was to further emphasize the fact that pokemon can be treated like dirt and still be molded into loyal tools that are nigh-unstoppable.

And to provide a HILARIOUS example against your own point, I guess Tobias was lined up to stop the evil Ash from succeeding in his own toxic ambitions. And remember Rainbow Rocket? The villains from the other dimensions succeeded, meaning no legendaries intervened to save their worlds. I guess they were lined up to stop the multiverse league from surviving with their toxic ambitions. Dumb idiot moron stupid baka.

Now I have a head canon of Arceus sending Tobias specifically to stop Paul, but Arceus never expected the loser from Kanto to beat him. So Ash ends up slapped down.

Arceus: Hey Lugia, you know anything about this kid from Pallet Town? He showed up in Sinnoh with like not much more than a Pikachu and he is really setting off my predictions for how reality is supposed to play out?

Gamefreak and the anime team might have been trying to push the message that friendship is the superior way, but that message falls short when they make the two anti-friendship rivals so much stronger than everyone other than the protagonists. Like you said, Silver never cared for the championship and was just lashing out. But Paul was gunning for the win and he was crushing it until Arceus lined up a boy with the thickest plot armor known to man and a random guy with several legendaries to catch him in case he somehow beat Ash.

Paul is the same way, but he is arguably more successful because he doesn't have to lose every fight by being a mandatory videogame boss. But he still arguably is his own undoing as if he had never abandoned chimchar then he never would have put it into Ash's hands.

The only thing that stopped Silver and Paul was someone with protagonist power. If you look at it from another angle, they were able to find much more success than other people through their methods.
