>>56336909i don't entirely disagree with you, however, i do think he was beneficial to the anime's success.
Shudo's ideas about ending the anime did originate from the declining popularity after Red and Green fell out of favour in the late 90s; gen 2 was delayed until 99 following Spaceworld 1997, and the series was on a decline in popularity, so ideas about ending the series are a natural result.
i do agree entirely about digimon, since those shows tended to be more mature and tried to deliver a message the way pokemon movie 1 did. Tamers is a good example, even if the writer for that did a 180 later in life.
i definitely prefer Kusaka's take, especially how he handles women. Blue and Kris are amazing characters, especially Kris; despite childhood trauma and physical injury, she becomes a spectacular trainer and rivals the other johto dex holders. kicking her balls is a unique trait that is a result of her trauma, but isn't something that holds her back as a person; i wish more writers could write traumatised characters like Blue and Kris.
>>56336937again, i don't think Shudo truly thought he had a chance to end it this way; this post was made long after he stopped working on pokemon, and he clearly says "if i had written it" and "it would literally have to be the last episode ever."
i think his inability to create another plot is why he stepped away; even on his blog he says he couldn't keep writing episoes forever.
