Here's my team from Shining Pearl, I just beat the Elite 4 with it and am about to do the little bit of postgame that's left. The shiny starter wasn't planned I got that first try, the rest of the team was me trying to avoid the sinnoh meme, oh and that blissy is just a placeholder I never found a decent 6th I wanted to use so I just kept that one happiny egg and let it evolved

I'm kind of a person who likes reading all sorts of Pokemon related stuff so I've read things like Diamond and Pearl Adventure, Zensho and the translations of How I became a Pokemon Card. But for the non-manga books, I'm not sure. Maybe the internet archive? It could be on a website like how there's a backup of JB2448 that still has other scans.

As far as mainline goes, BW as standalone games mog anything that came before them (Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire, Diamond/Pearl) and BW2 mog the 3rd versions (Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum) whether or not it beats HGSS all comes down to the content each has and which you prefer desu they are the duologies with the most content out of the franchise
That said, when people say Gen 4 is the best they take spin-offs into account which I have to admit Gen 5 spinoffs were weird as fuck

It's just not a very good gen when accounting for all spinoffs, which gen 4 was drowning on compared to every other gen

I knew about Pokémon for a while (I got a little Squirtle figurine as well as a few of the Diamond and Pearl McDonald’s poke balls when I was living in Singapore for a while), but I never played the games until around 2012-2013. My first game was Pokémon Black on an R4 card I used to have. I chose Tepig and gave up shortly after I got to the first gym because I broke down crying because I felt bad about not teaching Tepig defense curl (I was a stupid kid who got attached to things way too easily, still kind of am. I didn’t pick the fire starter again until Sword and Shield). However, I didn’t get REALLY into the games until I got Pokémon Black 2 in 2013. I also downloaded this one unofficial Pokédex app on my iPad, which is where I found out about all the Pokémon. I started getting even more into Pokémon during the lead up to gen 6. I remember looking at so many dumb bullshit fake corocoro scans, as well as the massive speculation regarding what Sylveon’s type was. I was a regular browser of the pokememes page on cheezburger.net (it was a different time). I got Pokémon X the day it came out, and I played it religiously. The lead up to ORAS was something else, the hype was off the charts, and the bullshit leaks didn’t stop coming (I remember there was this fake leak of two mega Rayquazas that were literally just Dialga and Palkia coloured green with Rayquaza’s head pasted on. And let’s not forget mega Klinklang). The games came out in very close proximity to Super Smash Bros for Wii U, so that was also really exciting for me when I was younger. I put so much time into Omega Ruby due to the 1 year break between games. I researched the competitive scene to see which Pokémon were good (the battle resort was basically where I spent most of my time).

Emerald is based. Gen 4 is pretty sweet too.
I started with Blue back in the late 90s. I waited a while before I got a DS though so HeartGold and Platinum were my first experience of gen 4. I'm playing through Pearl right now and it's comfy though obviously not as great as Platinum.

Dusclops is a really good design. Why the fuck did they give it a morbidly obese evolution immediately after introducing it? Diamond and Pearl genuinely baffle me. They're such odd games compared to what came before the, and I legitimately want to know GF's design philosophy behind them.

It's has to be said that Kageyama's arrangements on Gen VI were the best the series ever had. Kinda sucks his talent was wasted on not being main composer anymore. Diamond and Pearl deserved proper remake treatment damnit. LGPE's soundtrack was also an abomination, but BDSP had actual hype and demand surrounding it. All the cut corners fucked that game up beyond repair and i don't Kageyama has that dog in him anymore, or any reason to up his game again for that matter.
