NO ONE gets Misty and Ash in character when its a shipping fanfic. More often than not they either age them up into completely different adult characters or they stay kids and are suddenly way more emotionally vulnerable than normal.
Serena on the other hand is almost always done correctly. (mostly because she's a simpler character) but still.
It's actually kind of annoying no one can seem to come up with a believable scenario where ash and misty confess without completely changing who they are
