Or remember those chapters in XY&Z where Ash was acting as an OoC jerkass that takes too much pride in his pokemon and was easily provoked by Sanpei bc he told his Froakey was a weakling, or when Ash's obliviousness was overly exaggerated when Serena cosplayed in that Fennekin cosplay, or when Fletchlinder became Talonflame and Ash suicide bombed, or when Ash started to act more cocky and had issues to sinchronize with Greninja and Sawyer btfo'd hil due to that, making Ash pissed because Sawyer was about to surpass him.
It's Yonemura's schtick. Now, he exaggerated Ash's self centeredness and lack of tact.
It would be expected that, if he stays as series constructor, he brings back the Ash gets arrogant after winning a league and some rival has to humble him down plot.
