Yeah, they’ve never had all this stuff happen in a League before. The most controversial things that have happened at any Leagues prior were Ash being late to his match against Ritchie because of TR and Cameron bringing 5 Pokémon to a 6v6. This League is kind of messy.

She literally started after the league battle and rubbing the salt until Oak called Ash out, afterwards Ash got himself pushed back up by Ritchie.
Seriously, nuances go right past your head really badly when a normal person would get.

He was just being polite for lashing out on Serena. Its like I am talking to a guy who see the girl being nice to him and ends up believing her to be in love with him.

No, he was basically telling you in words that he was messed up and Serena had him get his act together.

Because Serena isn't the bitchy archetype, but more of the sensitive one. In OS he was also about to give up his goal if not for Ritchie who opened up to him about how he felt after losing. And even before that, Misty was rubbing salt at him and almost provoking a fistfight. If not for Pikachu who thunderbolt'd everyone, the OS trio would've ended disbanded because of one sore loser throwing a tantrum and falling into despair. And in DP, if not for Brock who stopped Dawn from interfering, it would've ended pretty similar to OS, with Ash crossing the despair event horizon after shattering his bonds.

You should use the Ash and Gary sprites in Pokemon Yellow, but really that is just Ash's game version. Ritchie doesn't even have the right clothes and design wise, Ritchie looks nothing like Red. Gary still looks close to it, who else is Professor Oak's grandson? Ash beat Gary in Johto league

Ritchie was just a hardly changed copycat, because sure as hell Gary didn't look like this either. And if we're being specific about things, Ash didn't even beat Gary in Indigo, but in the Silver Conference.

It's not besides the point though because by then Ash is already also changing his team to other stuff. Ritchie was his own thing, Ash was his own thing, both took the idea from the player character in the game.

That is besides the point really, officially Ash is based off Red in the game and anime while Ritchie just tries to be a copy cat of Ash, as the anime progresses Ritchie goes away from Red/Ash's team and gets a Pupitar etc.

Gary is an anime character who was based off of the game character. Inside the leagues he hasn't had game OCs participate. But if you're really going to try applying that, he lost to Ritchie who was just another Red.

It's a bit like Charizard falling asleep vs Pikachu but the key difference was Charizard was intentionally refusing to wake up and battle because it thought Ritchie's Pikachu was unworthy to fight.

I saw this fight like a complete reversal of Ash's league fight against Ritchie way back in Kanto where he lost due to a technicality of his Pokemon all falling asleep because he had to fight Rocket over and over again that the judges forced that rule upon him. It was dumb, stupid luck sure but I couldn't help but notice the crazy comparison to this and that fight
