I didn't think THE legendary Gothitelle episode was this early in to BW, but I got to it. Weirdly enough, I don't remember there being any time travel themed episodes of the OS unless you count the Celebi movie. There were three in AG (Baltoy, May and Meowth, and the Ritchie Hoenn special), I guess the Arceus movie, the Rotom episode of XY, and two in SM (the episode where Ash meets baby Kukui and tells him to make the Pokemon League and the Guzzlord episodes kind of count). The time travel episode concept is truly a gift from the post-OS era; even if they're not as compelling as this one, they never really miss.
As much as I enjoyed the Gothitelle episode in particular, and especially the message (let go of the past, cherish your memories, but live in the present) the course of events in the episode seemed disjointed. It's the one case where it didn't really make sense why Ash & co. had to be there. They just sort of stumbled into a time-space warp, had what felt like an extraneous battle that didn't resolve the conflict of the episode, and then went on their merry way. While I appreciate them skipping a bit to have Cilan point out that they were in a time-space warp, it was kind of weird, because Cilan's schitck is that he's the reddit atheist to Iris' sabbat-worshipping mystic outlook (a dynamic XY would use for Clemont and Bonnie). Did Cilan finally figure out that Pokemon are real and do magic sometimes?
