>>53425372The problem with XY is that they took a very daring direction, it's neither innovative nor creative, just bold. And it didn't work.
For example, every series flaws could be easily shrugged off with either plot convenience (leagues, villain arcs, May's contest) or there always be something more meaningful behind that, like Rowlet vs Decidueye in Ash vs Hau.
Meanwhile, XY direction not only goes too bold, but also doesn't have any solid reasoning why they should do that and people would always brought out the better way or just the old way is better.
For example, Ash being too bland. The justification is that it's culmination of his arc so far and continuation from DP, but it's easily shrugged off that many people don't lose their personality when their capability increased.
Another one is Ash vs Sawyer. While 2 double KO is claimed to shown how strong Sawyer is, it could be shrugged off with the fact that it also sacrificed Ash's already poor non-Greninja team and makes the battle bland and boring.
There's so many aspects of XY that could be easily debated as "way off the mark" like that, unlike with JN which plot faults like JN team lacking screentime is also debunked with pre-M8 heavy training.
