Different from say Ash and Korrinas, is that Serena desires a romantic relationship with Ash whereas Korrina does not, and in that case can you honestly tell why should I care or be invested into a relationship which is no more interesting or unique in regards to Ash than a random Gym leader.
And this applies to pretty much every single major character from X&Y and XY&Z, Clemont, Sawyer, Alain, all have this exact same thing where Ash inspires them for the exact same reasons he does Serena, and if anything are more interesting since there is some actual conflict when it comes to these relationships, and thus some other elements beyond the already stated, as opposed to Serena who has only point when her and Ashs relationship experiences conflict, and that is resolved within an episode and the ultimate lesson is a return to the status quo, not an evolution in their relationship.
This why, despite Amourshippers claiming how Ash and Serena never fighting as opposed to all his previous female companions is proof of how much they are made for eachother, them not fighting almost ever is proof of how little in common they have with eachother, since the reason why Ash and his previous companions often came into conflict was because they had differing opinions on something they both cared about, which showed how they were passionate enough about a mutual topic to have a conflict over it.
That shows how their relationship was built upon with their common interests in mind, the fact they might bicker at times over these things is not a bad thing, the only bad thing would have been if they were never able to heal things over afterwards or if they kept bickering about pointless issues 24/7, that would imply a toxic relationship, but never bickering or to put it more accurately, never disagreeing with one another is an example of an incredibly bland and empty relationship, whose only goal is to be in a relationship with someone cont.
