>>53084453The pool of adults paying attention to this show for the past 2 decades is very small. I'm sure online it feels a lot bigger because you're exposed to other fans, but in actuality it's not that big. This is children's media and most people don't watch children's media except for, well, children.
You take that small pool, and you see how many actual hardcore shippers there are, that's even smaller. Most people who ship are casual shippers like the mistyboomers who are only here now that it's ending and they're being pandered to. If nothing happens I doubt any of them will care that much because they're not nearly as invested as the hardcore fans are, which at this point is really just serena fans since they're a much more recent addition to the fanbase. All the othergirl fans have mostly moved on and accepted their ship probably isn't happening and they don't care much anymore since it's been such a long time and made peace with no resolution as mistyboomers already did up to this point.
Basically the only people who would send death threats are manchild serena fans who shitpost on serebii all day and are eternal neets who never leave their houses. These are a handful of people in actuality.
This isn't really a case of other notorious franchises like eva (as others mentioned), where the target demographic is exclusively adults. That's why they got so many death threats since their audience actually did consist largely of retarded otaku who act like retarded otaku.
