I'm also none of the people that claimed she got retconned or anything, but doesn't really matter if you want to believe that or not.
Doesn't change the fact that a thing a director said in an interview isn't proof that same vision is gonna stay fact in one, or five however many years. Especially if it has happened before, see Shudo for an obvious example. You're really not doing yourself a favour with holding onto the delusion that any ship will ever become canon.
