>>56728067This is something that Takeshi Shudo tried really hard to make consistent when he was in charge of the anime. Are there "real animals?" There used to be, but they went extinct. Can Pokemon and humans really understand each other? Aside from Meowth, who can speak both languages, no. Why can ten year olds travel around the region on their own with just a magical creature? Because legally they're considered adults and going on a Pokemon journey is a stepping stone into adolescence and adulthood.
I'm sure there are and were others who have pushed for more consistency. Just look at all the theology/lore that's been dropped in the leaks. But damn, they refuse to communicate any of this.
