>>47347305>How did they continue to fuck it up since?...did you miss the part where Gen 1 and 2 were developed without the series being a franchise in mind?
But yeah, the first 2 gens were directed by Tajiri. He was just an autist with a vision. He didn’t know the series was going to be a popular million seller so he just made the best shit he could in the time he was allowed as a passionate lover of vidaya, GF’s origins were as a vidaya reviewing doujinshi after all.
By Crystal he passed on the torch and figured the fad would die. Masuda didn’t have his vision and clearly doesn’t have passion anywhere near as great. He’s a composer first and foremost after all. He pretty much franchised the series, giving it many of the formulaic elements we know today (forced encounters with the box legends, introducing new villainous teams whose goals are related to said box legend, friendly rivals, invasive tutorials and Legends went from Rare birbs, Enhanced clone, Shudo’s wet dream, bitchin’ phoenix and bitchin’ phoenix’s babies to the world, God, ideologies, life and death, the sun and moon, Ayy Lmaos, etc)
Almost everything wrong with the franchise nowadays can directly be attributed to Masuda. He’s like the Takashi Iizuka of Pokemon. Even down to making directing a couple of gems despite their generally very shitty track records.
