>>58041832Designs aside, Horizons just doesn't feel like it's Pokemon-coded. For all the flack Shudo gets, I think he actually played the games and got a feel of Tajiri's vision, like all the other ashnime directors.
Can't say the same thing about the Horizons staff. I was actually pretty hyped about Dai Satou from E7 working on Horizons but it turned out mid because Dai's writing style requires a seinen sort of story so that he could utilize his narratives. In a kodomo show, he just kinda doesn't know how to make the story "meta shounen" like the ashnime staff did.
As I said, I liked the direction they took at the start with Liko as the solo MC but when she got weighed down by Roy and Dot with their milquetoast sterilized cliche bullshit, it just got boring
