>KantoFrankly OS's sin is not fucking ending. We all know they wouldn't have let Shudo do his tyrannosaurus/pokemon uprising/ash becomes a deadbeat loser plots, but whatever they did have in mind is forever lost.
They didn't know they'd become such a complete juggernaut, despite the games having been out and selling hotcakes.
It sets up way too much and pays off way too little. Watching Kanto episodes in a marathon you will notice a trend of characters saying they'll meet again, or they'll meet at the league, or that several months have passed, or that Ash and Misty have any sort of future together.
In a vacuum these are charming, but given the show's history they're just constant reminders of wasted opportunity
>JohtoThe show starts wasting the viewers time with episode after episode of the same tired cookie-cutter plots. They haven't gotten around to exiling former viewers but now they're fully aware that they don't NEED to make compelling episodes, they just need to make episodes.
>Hoenn3 is death. Hoenn repeating Ash's league loss after Johto is the first time (counting Orange islands) tthat it happened consecutively after another loss, proving to all of us that tradition will overrule entertainment.
Not to mention showing signs of cynicism towards the audience. How many good stories throw out a long sttanding character "So the boys can have some new eye candy"?
>SinnohCompounds the flaws of Hoenn and Johto. Tradition is god. Ash must get a new female companion again, this time with the same mottivation. Ash must lose the league again. We need 4000 episodes about Team Rocket between gyms. At least this was the most entertaining series to date.
>UnovaIts 2010 and 90s nostalgia wasn't hip yet. Time to start throwing away development. It is not a coincidence that the first episode reestablishes that Ash is a ten year old. 1/2
