>>53370508-When Jenny is listing off the heart related things that Banette has stolen, one of the items is an Ace of Hearts. Under cartomancy, the Ace of Hearts predicts that you will have a pleasant reunion with someone you love and experience a happy moment. This of course is exactly what happens with Banette in the episode, so at the very least it isn't crazy to assume that card symbolism was in the mind of the team.
-Of note, while Banette's story in this episode is in relation to its Pokedex entry (which is a pretty cool one), I also think the slight tweak to it to make it less scary and more heartfelt (Banette is not coming for revenge, but rather out of love) feels a bit Toy Story-esque to me. I also think the real life ghost story of Okiku the doll might have been an influence.
-Time to address this one, there was some people posting (some in earnest, some clearly not) about the girl in the photograph (who we later find out is a young Nurse Joy) and relating her to the Japanese Pokemon movie trailer with the little girl with pink hair. A few things to say about that:
1. First and foremost, regarding the trailer itself, the orange haired woman was clearly meant to be an older Misty. I don't believe statements to the contrary, it's pretty obvious. Everything else about the trailer is up to interpretation (and honestly requires it, Shudo is a madman).
2. Second, I do not believe that young Nurse Joy is related to the girl in the trailer at all. Not only are their character designs distinct enough from each other, their portrayals have zero thematic, visual or auditory comparison. While I would love for something this schizo and obscure to have legs, it simply doesn't have them.
3. It's important to remember, while connecting the little girl from this trailer to Joy is a meme (with history before this episode aired), it's a meme born from here, not something the creators would be privy to.
