Yeah just like there's a little part of land in Sinnoh that connects to the mainland and you can never visit they could do an Australia region and just have Darwing out because it's legally part of Gaia's region in the Pokemon world. The rest don't have that luxury, they got shafted hard and will never have their own game now

for some retarded reason sinnoh put all 4 kanto trade evos in its dex even though so many of the new evolutions are also trade evos. so if you don't have a patient friend or a second gen 4 game so much of the dex is locked off to you.

Also there's the fact that Sinnoh has a catholic church in Hearthome city and a the ruins of a Partheon-like temple atop Mt. Coronet. Not Shinto or Buddhist but still religious buildings.

It was made during the "Pokemon is a dirty word" era of the franchise where Gaijin stopped caring about Pokemon because it was no longer popular. It predates when the actual anime became irredeemable trash but came after most of the early movie masterpieces before they became solely corporate shilling. In hindsight the AG and DP movies are good for what they are, but that's for what they are. Earlier Pokemon just had such a radically different energy to it and this was the transitional period where it fully became a fantasy world with its own ruleset and it'll have to sit in the "at least I'm not 2010s PokeAni" chair for the rest of time, never to be reevaluated as masterpieces or be anything more than a DVD sale for TPC

Lately it feels like Hoenn and Sinnoh are like an expanded issue that Johto has being "Kanto's backyard" where they're treated as "core part of PokeJapan but not a unique identity like Unova, Kalos, Galar, etc."

The Altar of the Sunne (or Moone) can give a similar impression, especially since we know from Malie's library that Solgaleo and Lunala are worshipped as deities. It's certainly not as strong symbol as the cathedral in Sinnoh, but it's still worth noting

kanto, sinnoh and kalos also have a good number of good designs

Kanto - Very mixed. Some great designs but some absolute stinkers too
Johto - Not great. Too many designs that just add spikes and toilet Gatr is the single worst mega
Hoenn - Other than the Latis being identical and Manectric looking dumb, this is a great list
Sinnoh - Garchomp and Lucario doubling up on megas is disappointing but the rest are great
Unova - I like Golurk and don't care for Excadrill, the rest are mid
Kalos - Would be the best region if Pyroar didn't stink the place out
Alola - Zeraora is bland but the rest are great. Small sample size though
Galar - Only one rep but it's one of the better megas so there's that.
Paldea - Fine I guess but nothing special

Hoenn > Kalos > Sinnoh > Alola > Kanto > Galar > Unova > Paldea > Johto
