However just because some kids are interested in cute girl & romance does not mean every kids are interested in cute girl and romance. Truth is, most kid's idea of romance are influenced by TV show and book they read as kids. Many young boy are more interested in sports and game over girls and they often treats girls the same way they treat other boys. Ash is definitely on that category specially considering he shows no interest in any TV shows or book unless it involves pokemon.

The problem with you is that you think his Age has anything to do with his Density. Plenty of boys in this anime have crushes( Drew and Tierno for starters) Ash is the only dense person here because he's a generic Shounen MC. Even if Ash grows up, he still won't break out of his shell because he's S-H-O-U-N-E-N
