That pic reminds me of a hypothetical I had (which is also pretty relevant, considering what will likely be announced on Thursday). How would the SV group interact with the XY group? I imagine Florian and Serena would get along pretty well, as would Arven and Calem. Nemona and Shauna would be constantly chatting, and Penny and Trevor would bond over their more introverted habits. Juliana and Tierno would probably be paired up by process of elimination, I guess.

I actually like how Tierno is absent a lot of times during the friendly meets throught the game and we only get info about him doing some cool shit (training in dojo, learning about rare stones etc.) from Trevor. I feel like there's a potential for a free-spirited rival that has his own adventures, but it would be better if there was actual growth attached to stories about his whereabouts. Like getting a Hitmon or other fighting-type from said dojo or Carbink/fossilmon from studying rocks.
Also Tierno would fit better in SM with his dancing gimmick and move autism. He feels like he could be relative of Kukui that is very excited about his uncle's research.

There's a difference between a "friendly rival" and a "friend" Bianca is a friendly rival, Hau is a chill dude friendly rival, Trevor is just a random kid. Tierno is just "hey let's make the Doraemon cast".

I don't have a problem with there being friends instead of asshole rivals. But the X/Y kids were a big "miss" for me in terms of friends. They don't really appear enough or -do- anything to really feel like friends or rivals. Shauna gets some time with you with the fireworks in that big mansion, but the others just kinda feel forgotten, the other gender trainer being the biggest standout IMO of wasted opportunity. They were the "trainer" and likely leader of the friend group, they bring you into the group and you keep trouncing them in battles which seems like their forte. I think it would have been interesting to see Serena/Callum being the one pushed to be better and try harder. Almost like WE are the rival pushing them.

Tierno and Trevor just needed to be in the game a bit more and doing more stuff than just sitting on the sideline. As far as kanto getting a lot of megas and the starters, yeah that is a bit wank, gen 2 deserved some attention since most of their pokemon are super underpowered. But also, I think gen1 has the most "hits" out of all of their mon and the least misses.

Trevor and Tierno are definitely gen pool, but Shauna comes with a starter, got an alt, and tcg waifu collectors went bonkers over her XY era full art card in terms of prices from what I heard, so I can see her being a fair in this hypothetical

I wonder what Carmine will be considered. You do battle her multiple times but she's like Arven where she's more importantly a battle partner. Klara and Avery are weird that they have the gym leader passive instead of rival even though minor league gym leaders in Galar are basically nonexistent nobodies. Personally my definition of rival is any "friends" you battle at least once. Because otherwise what the fuck is Wally or Tierno. If Wally is considered a rival then Penny is too. You have a non battle encounter with both of them very early on in the game. Then you battle them at the end. She even shows up in the academy ace tournament to regularly challenge you.
