first game was BW2 really and going from Neo "11 year old spotted, Kyurem go!" Plasma to dorks in suits that wanted to use the big red chicken as a WMD felt so lame. I wanted Tierno to fuck off forever and I didn't care for any other character. The biggest pluses back then were the fact that XY has my favorite grass starter (Chestnaught), the gift pokemon Blaziken, the once mindblowing 3D and mega evolution. I just refused to use any of the kalos pokemon other than the route 1 mons so I had like 3 fire types in a team of Chestnaught, Blastoise, Vivillion, Pyroar, Blaziken and Talonflame. I also remember shitting on the game irl a while after I beat it.
Honestly though, I was probably just insanely jealous like how teens are usually defensive because of how everyone seemed to have hated Black and White back then when it was my first game. And the praise XY got in the moment just served as extra anger fuel. I'm gonna get back to XY after all this time when my viewpoints have shifted.
