He's not even wrong, NOBODY would've given a shit about this if this was the semifinals and it had been confirmed Ash was losing it a month ago, like in earlier leagues.

It's not Tomiyasu who decided on that. That's definitely a directive from Gamefreak and TPCi. AG was retconned because it's a pseudo mega, and they cant keep designing special forms for a battle bond transformation for every game. They also want to make Battle Bond available to more Pokemon, not just Greninja. Honestly, it looks like with every Gen, you are SUPPOSED to forget about the previous gen's gimmick in favor of the new one. And the anime will adapt accordingly. Expect to never see Megas or Gmax in the next few years ever again.
