The manga recycles the protagonists constantly and they often steal time away from the current protagonists for no real reason.
The FRLG and HGSS and ORAS sagas are one thing, but the Kanto retards showed up in the GSCHGSS AND RSEORAS arcs, and the Johto faggots showed up in the DPPt arcs and I’m pretty sure they were even involved in the Emerald arc before that too, and Red and Blue and Green even ended up showing up in the XY arc because they absolutely NEEDED to show that they had Mega Evolutions now. (Which then led to them being involved in the ORAS arc, naturally.) The BWBW2 arcs were mostly safe from this, but then at the end of XY arc there’s that bitch Whitley talking to X (also she has Trevor’s Delphox now fuck you)
I think SM/USUM arc and SwSh arc were safe from these retarded cameos but I didn’t pay enough attention. SV arc will probably be pretty self contained unless they spend time in fucking Blueberry Academy which will give an excuse for Black, White, Blake and/or Whitley to show up. Hell maybe they’ll bring back Red, Blue and Green and have them Tera their starters. Fuck it, advertising above all. CAMEOS = MONEY!!!!!!

I agree wholeheartedly to the story themes XY is trying to accomplish and your explanation was very thoughtful, but I really think Trevor, Tierno, Shauna and Calem/Serena are just too weak of a presence to pack any delivery to it. Sure, they are static and exist to make a point, but Serena/Calem are just not imposing rivals in the slightest, and absolutely not interesting. Their character background is tiny, their contribution to the plot is minimal, in the journey you just beat him/her over and over and see them mope about losing like a mere roadblock that really doesn't deserve the player's attention.

The reason XY friends exist is to point out that someone doesn't have to be a strong trainer to deserve existence. The game shows you that when you fight them in a row. You are fighting 9 pokemons which could have been a challenge, but Trevor heals you before the last battle instead. They are weak as pokemon trainers, and they don't care. They don't need to win. There are other things that give their life meaning; unlike Serena/Calem who struggles as a result with you being always stronger and getting the mega-ring instead of her). Although the 3 friends aren't strong trainers, they are currently leading more fulfilling lives than the rival before she comes to term. In that sense, they are actually stronger. Trevor is obsessed with filling out the Pokedex, and goes at his own pace. Often goes along with Tierno.
Serena is obsessed with making a name for herself, and using Mega Evolution to do that. Her being unable to defeat you aggravates her, so she runs at her own pace to improve herself to face you again.

Shauna is really the only one that stops to hang out with you.

They rely on Kanto a fuckton, Kanto starters, Professor Sycamores team isnt Kalos Pokemon its just the Kanto starters, Most megas are for Kanto mons, you get a free Lapras, even Lysandre’s ace is Kanto mons

We have many, many examples that rookie trainers have no problem getting by, along with rookie pokemon being used against gym pokemon. Your headcanon that gyms are this impossible obstacle that only elite trainers and pokemon can defeat is just objectively wrong. It's weird.
I get the feeling you're only pushing this headcanon in an attempt to promote Ash, but it doesn't even work because of the reasons I've outlined.

I think that's what they called themselves.
Actually fun fact your main rival in this game (Calem or Serena) never calls them by their nicknames, they only call you by yours.
Also Shauna only talks to Trevor like twice and refers to him as Trevor both times so technically Tierno is the only one that calls him Trevs.

I’m a bit lazy so Alex pretty much just listens to anything that I do, mostly extreme metal from the 90s to the present day. Our favorite bands are going to show up in the soundtrack.
