Oh yeah, forgot that. Psychic wasn't immune, it just felt like it. All Ghost moves doing fixed damage and all being part poison, coupled with Psychic being fast as fuck, generally wrecked them, but it was more they were tied up and thrown into a boxing ring to go 15 rounds with Tyson in Gen I that Psychic being immune.

All that training the pokemon spend on mastering their moves in the anime, with entire episodes centered around it sometimes, and they just forget them entirely because they learned how to growl? That only makes sense in the games for balance reasons, what the hell is it doing in the anime?

There’s also seem to be times where it felt like they had a plan for something but scrapped it for one reason or another. Like Ritchie and Casey just outright disappearing in Johto without any closure

People seem for forget it wasn't just that Ash lost to Alan, it's the fact that they deliberately misdirected everyone into thinking Ash was going to win given all the insane setup they did and named the episode something misleading on purpose. If Alan had been built up as the guy who comes in to beat him he wouldn't have been that much worse than Harrison or Tyson.
