The idea that Ash would even care about getting the runback on people who have defeated him in the past is ridiculous. Life is full of wins and losses when you play a sport. Ash never got the runback on Diantha, Tobias, Kenny, Tyson, Harrison, Cameron, or Ritchie either, but it's fine, he won more fights than he lost and went out as a winner.

I really don't think Ash was intended to lose to Cameron, his introduction was very similar to Morrison's in Hoenn where Ash gets a last minute friendly rival and then would lose to an older more mature character. Virgil was basically Harrison/Tyson 3.0.

It'd have been cool if we had some named characters from previous series attempting to become Project Mew Chasers (besides Gary). Having other old characters in the mix that Goh would have to compete with and actually defeat himself would have made his achievement more hard-earned. Imagine if he had to fight some of these guys

I love how Torkoal goes on a mediocre battle streak in Hoenn to somehow almost beating a Registeel only 50 eps later.

Fun fact: Torkoal's only wins in Hoenn were beating Norman's Slakoth (his weakest pokemon), a Scizor from a trainer in the Drake episode, it tied with a Tropius in the Hoenn league, and beat Tyson's Shiftry. Every other time it battled it lost.

The Aipom thing irritated me so much watching it. They could've used the time to give May a few more minutes of losing to Solidad, and the little shit gets three episodes of filler after. I understand they wanted to give Aipom spotlight since it'd be following Ash into Sinnoh, and May was going to be leaving soon, but still. Ash got a 6 v. 6 loss against Tyson, and his second loss to Brandon gets a whole episode. May coming from the stage after losing and crying when Max calls her the best sister ever is one of my favorite moments of AG though.

BF has a lot of redundancy in Pokemon used after Noland, for example:

Greta uses Hariyama a pokemon Ash beat twice before in Brawly and Tyson. Medicham was good because May faced one but Ash never did.

Tucker uses Arcanine and Swampert. Ash just beat Morrison's Swampert in the league, and Arcanine just got an ep for May/Drew just a few eps prior.

Lucy uses Seviper which is fine since it's her star in the games, but then uses Milotic, and we have another pikachu vs. milotic showdown which we just had at Juan's Gym.

Spenser uses Shiftry who Ash just beat Tyson's Shiftry, a Venusaur (May battled one with the salaryman), and Claydol the latter which is good.

Anabel uses Metagross (Ash beats Tyson), but Espeon, etc. is good.

Watching the Hoenn league and BF close together and I'm realizing I'm seeing the same pokemon used in these major battles over and over again.

This plotline where Sceptile lost all its moves after evolving never made sense. Its resolved in only 2 episodes too, but I guess they had no choice as AG was almost over. I get the feeling Grovyle was intended to evolve before the Hoenn league and go toe to toe with Tyson's Sceptile, but then when DP got delayed a year they delayed Grovyle's evolution a season.

I'll take Tyson battle over Sawyer and Alain. At least Swellow stopping Donphan and cracking Metagross clears any "strategies" and "tactics" supposedly there in Kalos League. Tyson as a whole is a better character than both, too.

Well the Hoenn league is over. The Tyson battle was an, "eh" overall. Not the worst battle ever but rather forgettable outside a few parts. Ash's Hoenn league loss seemed to cause the least uproar of all the losses though, I guess people just didn't care one way or the other about this one. Meowth in boots was cool I guess?

Tyson battle is pretty rushed, like Donphan hits Swellow with 5 rollouts and then gets defeated once by Swellow flipping it over. I did like Swellow and Grovyle wearing down Metagross before Pikachu took the win.

The writers are fucked up. Tyson's Sceptile vs. Ash's Glalie is like 30 seconds long and they both double KO each other between the end of one ep and the start of another. Tyson's Sceptile was thrown under a bus, which is weird as his Sceptile is the first time we ever saw one debut in the anime.

I feel this is where the Hoenn league kinda falls apart. The early 2 on 2 battles for Ash (both of them), and Morrisons 2 on 2 were great, and the Katie battle was excellent. But Ash vs. Morrison is a real mixed bag and from what I remember the Tyson battle is rushed like hell since they cram a 6 on 6 into one episode.

Besides that this league has the usual "hype" mons, Tyson has Sceptile and Metagross, Morrison uses Steelix and Swampert, we see Electabuzz, Aggron, Golduck, a Charizard and Quilava, a Machamp and Marowak, etc...it's almost the same pokemon every league.

Some unique ones were a Tropius and Swalot, and getting to see some underused Johto pokemon like Girafarig, Misdreavous and Gligar.

I know May has some impressive title when she returns in DP, so I thought she'd actually win. It's fine that she lost to Solidad; she won the battle that mattered. But did they really need to do Ash and Aipom right in the middle? Especially since May effectively jobbed quickly after. Ash lost to Tyson in a 6 v. 6. May couldn't get half as much screen time to lose? Oh well, off to work.

It just ate screentime away from May's Contest battles. It really feels like the writers were afraid kids would lose interest if Ash wasn't doing anything, so they kept having him do things during May's Contests. It's really ridiculous and I'm glad they stopped doing that.
