I agree TPCi is staying put obviously, but they brought back Tara Jayne, Megan Hollingshead, etc. so I'm just saying, why not give Veronica Taylor & the others who basically made the Pokemon dub popular in the first place a chance to return in Horizons? That's all. Let bygones be bygones, they seem to harbor no grudges against any of the 4Kids VAs save the main cast & it's been very notable over the years.

I'm just saying, it'd be the right thing to do, would be nice but I don't think they will do it or...

I think they'll keep the OST in the preview, then replace it for the actual episodes proper like XY & SM in the re-airings of HZ's dub. I also think they'll keep doing censorship as well, personally, but we'll see.

It's in San Diego, supposedly, I really hope with Ash gone for good they will try hard with the dub of the new Series.

I doubt that: they were TPCi's in-house staff & basically TAJ Productions backstabbed their old buddies at 4Kids Entertainment, late into AG, hence when 4Kids got outbid TPCi decided to cut costs on the production and canned almost everyone but Cathcart & Kayzie who had done the dub for the first 8 years.

It was a really controversial thing at the time, almost scandalous believe it or not, Veronica Taylor (Ash's OG English dub VA) actually cried at a con about it heartbroken she lost the role most dear to her heart at the time. Eric Stuart (Brock's OG dub VA, James' iconic one) took it very hard, too, they basically thought the fans were idiots who wouldn't care if they replaced the VAs (PUSA aka TPCi were their most asshole-ish back then, to clarify) & told him that to his face which is why he was bitter about it for a long time. It was a huge drama, but suffice it to say, we got stuck with the TPCi dub cast for the rest of the Ash anime run basically.

Christopher Waits is being a jerk, yeah, but he's just some random dude on Twitter (also no).

Giving 4Kids credit where it's due, they retained more of the OST in Pokemon than TPCi did as well and their music department was all around better, not just the voice acting.

I also thought the TRio dialogue and episode titles, punny as they could get, were largely better under 4Kids than TPCi.

TPCi only took the dub from 4Kids in the first place to go cheap on production, remember that, opposite of One Piece as TAJ was lower budget than 4Kids as was DuArt (Iyuno is now too, even if the dub is bicoastal).

Veronica Taylor was the better Ash/May/Delia, Eric Stuart was the better Brock/James/Butch, Rachael Lillis the better Misty/Jessie, etc. etc.

What makes it that much worse, though, is TPCi still has the original main three who made the Pokemon English dub what it was in the first place and popular overseas on a blacklist evidently for calling their bad dub out at the time of the switch. Veronica Taylor, Eric Stuart, and Rachael Lillis deserved better than this, why that company continues a vendetta and quarrel with them I don't know, but it sucks.

They've brought back tons of the side talent in minor roles later on, and let certain VAs reprise roles (Giovanni, Nurse Joy), but told others they couldn't or didn't ask others to do so (Prof Oak, Drake from AG). Nepotism 101.

That said, I hope JCC recovers from his cancer, and this dude crossed the line regardless. It's one thing to criticize his work, but another to equate it to...THAT.

Ash went straight downhill in every way except as a trainer in battle: his dialogue, his voice, his mannerisms, his outfits, just awful later on. He was a solid protagonist in his early years, even if a lousy trainer always.

Deleen Melody is generic and squeaky cutesy teenage girl-ish, boring/forgettable as May.

Michele Knotz is basically May as a slut/whore, attractive but sounds like she moans through all her lines on the verge of orgasm plus frustrated depressive housewife elsewhere: another way TPCi screwed up the English version of Pokemon, in general, not specific to Knotz in fairness. Hot, but completely unfitting miscast.

Eric Stuart's James was a bit too campy later, but nothing was homophobic about it, it was hilarious and intentionally goofy from what I could tell. Also, it has many, MANY fangirls who go nuts over it (while ignoring all his other good roles as well as the rest of the old dub cast's just as strong VA work) and find it suave & sexy that pine for it on YouTube too- not a joke: personally I thought it was just an amusing, funny, 25 year old sounding comedic villain.

He said the pay was good and it was a comfortable corporate job, and doesn't say a thing about any of his roles because they were just bit-parts, except for Harley, who he never mentions. I feel Sarah Natochenny sounded like a gruff woman to me at her worst and right now a teenage girl (she was at her best from late DP-mid-BW, started going downhill from XY onward again much like the dub itself tbf), but that's just me.

I agree that 4Kids did the better Pokemon dub, TPCi dragged the dub into the gutter IMO over time. People don't give 4Kids enough credit for Pokemon, honestly, they did such a better job than TPCi did and it's one of their redeeming aspects that vindicates their very existence desu.

Well, aside from the Lucario movie, this is the end of the 4Kids Era of Pokemon. It ended on a fun filler, with May and Ash using a Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee to fight each other over the fate of a noodle shop. Real peak ADV style filler.

Before Battle Frontier, I think Duel Masters had changed all of their VAs in English between seasons, and One Piece obviously went from 4Kids to Funimation, so suddenly Zoro sounded like Piccolo. So it wasn't unheard of when I was a teen, but I also didn't really understand how fucked up the situation was between 4Kids and TPC and how much this would drag down the dub for the future.

I like Sarah Natochenny as Ash. I heard her a lot when watching XY recently, and she honestly did a lot to put some character into Zombie Ash. I am really going to miss Veronica Taylor as May though. Her fucking squeaks when she gets excited put her in a totally different performance league.

I don't want to reopen the dubschizo war from a few days ago, on here, but there is something to be said for how 4Kids handled the localization that gave the Pokemon anime longevitiy in the west. And I'm really gonna miss it.

Veronica Taylor is iconic as Ash to everyone but Sinnohfetuses or younger, and even many of them eventually admit she was the best dub Ash out of the 3 VAs he's had. Go check any voice comparison, she crushes Sarah Natochenny and Kayzie Rogers despite having done it only second longest.

Bill Rogers makes Brock sound too old and too gruff, he does not sound 15- more like 50.

Sarah Natochenny's Ash is better than those two, but Veronica Taylor, she's also not. Anytime she yells or has to emote, you can tell it's a woman doing the voice.
