There used to be a YouTube video that compiled a bunch of XY&Z reflections from the Japanese boards, including stuff during the airing, and I remember it being that teens and adults were basically universal in their praise of the series, and Satosere was always a big aspect. For kids, they liked the show but were more mixed on the Satosere subplot.

We can discard gen 1 to 5 as the easiest, seeing as they don't have any friendship derivative mechanics nor easy QoL meant to trivialize the game like super and hyper training.
With that in mind, I'd narrow down the contenders to:

>Let's GO
>SwSh
My reasoning for disqualifying the rest:
>ORAS
Although ORAS suffers a lot of XYs faults as well as RSE's, and even goes out of their way to get you a free mega Latios/Latias, it's worth mentioning that those two are not great against any of the Elite 4, and by the time you get them they are also not effective against any of the remainder gym leaders. You can trivialize the difficulty of the game past 6th gym, but it also has Elite 4 rematches.
>BDSP
Although it has a lot of modern QoL, it also provides upgrades to the Elite 4 rematches, with it still being as solid as it was in DP. Game also has some extra challenges like the Shadow Giratina boss.
>SM & USUM
Although not that hard, Totem fights are probably harder than most gym leaders in the series, even with Z-moves they are hard to get rid of, usually have stage hazards in their favor especially weather and have omniboosts on top of reinforcements. Mega evolution not present until post-game.
>SV
Very easy to get over levelled and predictable gyms, however it has a handful of hard fights worth mentioning like Champion Nemona, Sada and Turo, Ogerpon, Drayton, Kieran, and everything that gets updated once the DLC is done averages the lv80

My reasoning is that all of these games include heaps of good Pokemon in their regional dexes that trivialize the game and certain gimmicks exacerbate their power against NPC trainers.
>USUM, SV, SM
Have many easily accessible good Pokemon but feature trainers or bosses with naturally strong Pokemon. Z-moves add an element of unpredictability with when the NPC decides to use them while SV features multiple more difficult trainers.
>ORAS, SwSh, LGPE
Handed powerful Pokemon to breeze through the game but they're tied to progression. Generally bad trainers.
>XY, BDSP
Handed powerful Pokemon tied through progression when the game is already easy. BDSP features difficult fights but the friendship buffs completely trivialize them.

Hello, I have posted information regarding Legends Z-A previously, however at that time I only had a handful of information, mostly regarding the story and characters. I have discovered a lot about the game since then, so I will be covering that here. Keep in mind I will be retreading on information mentioned in my previous post.

General Information

>Game takes place in 19th century
>Events of the game occur a couple years after Legends Arceus
>Does NOT take place entirely within Lumiose City, that one singular X post was wrong and did not have enough information on the game at that time
>Kalos at this time was known as the "Anthos" Region
>You play as the newest member of the Quasar Company, the organization responsible for Project Flare
>The goal of each "Chapter" is to go to each of the 5 locations, battle the Guardians, and convince the Retainers to allow the Quasar Company to use the Infinity Fountains to power Lumiose City

>Starters are simply Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie like in XY however, they each come with a brand new Mega Evolution.

>Z-A is directed by Kazumasa Iwao

Honestly? Fair enough. gen 8 has a lot of variety when it comes to the games. It's nice to see someone who enjoys BDSP as well. As flawed as they are, I just find their existence a nice novelty. I wouldn't mind if we got more ports of older Pokémon games for the switch (maybe not in the exact style, but I wouldn't be that upset if they are).

Glad you had just as much fun with it as I did. The soundtrack is another point I forgot to mention. I'm aware that his contributions to the soundtrack are a bit controversial around here, but I'm very glad that Toby Fox has become more prominent when it comes to Pokémon's soundtrack as of late. I was already a pretty big fan of his beforehand, so seeing two of my main special interests collide like this is something else. I quite like his contributions to the soundtrack (the final boss and Academy Ace Tournament themes are my favourites), and I'm excited to see if he composes anything for Z-A. When it comes to other songs on the soundtrack, Penny's theme is a definite highlight, as well as the Team Star grunt theme and the Blueberry Academy trainer theme (although the last one is probably due to nostalgia (gen 5 was my first)).

Really, that is the biggest issue with the Kanto pandering in XY - that it ends up detracting from the game's own personality. Kalos is a region brimming with charm, but the fact that you are being constantly told “remember Kanto?” takes away from the game's setting.
That's not to say that Kanto Pokémon being in the game is bad. I personally think that XY's huge roster is one of its main draws: the games are immensely replayable, as you can have wildly different teams each time you replay the game.
As for the postgame, I don't think that people are complaining that they put content before the credits. Rather, it's that XY are bereft of side content - there's no Pokéstar Studios, there's no Pokéathlon, etc. It's strange how, in a game whose one of its core themes is beauty, and where contests played a crucial role for one of its anime's main characters, contests just aren't there.
People wanted Pokémon Z (including myself), because it could've fixed many of the game's issues. Among other things, Emerald made gym leaders more difficult, and Platinum fixed DP's tiny roster. A hypothetical Pokémon Z could've fixed XY's many issues.

XY are noticeably easier than the previous games - especially with their new Exp All system, and the fact that Gym Leaders only use 3 Pokémon. Though the latter is also a big flaw of Gen 5, I'll give you that.
And, Pokémon has always been memed as having a very simple and bad story. XY are derided on this, because the previous entries (BW) had a more thought-out story.

Odds are, they're either going to re-use the exact protags from XY for L: Z-A or they'll possibly design ancestors based off their designs, much like they created an ancestor for the professor's assistants from DPPt/BDSP (depending on which the player chose as their avatar).

Off course putting Serena in the anime and making her more attractive than before is enough to satisfy XY fans which is proven by their reaction from Serena's return on JN series . While JN fans need Ash to be as strong as world champion should be in the show. I guess it hard to satisfy OS-DP fans because it requires a lot of work.

Which is pointless if the protagonist is not compelling enough for anybody to give a dam about him. Nobody cares about Ace, his special parents, him being half Dragonoid and having more special power than other Dragon caller. Puzzle and Dragon X is pretty much ignored and forgotten despite its serious story like XY&Z.

While Ash only needed the first episode to become one of the most compelling protagonist that made people watch his show for 26 years. That is what is called a good protagonist, not some Gary Stu with special parents that gave him special power cause him become one of the strongest character within 40 episode.

Most people didn't like XY series, they only came back because they thought Ash will win the league. That's what made people invested on XY&Z series.

Furthermore XY Ash wasn't any more competent than BW Ash, the series made Ash look cooler and gave him a love interest to attract all the losers. He was treated exactly the same way BW series treated him.

By the way , XY and XY&Z got MOGGED by Youkai Watch anime. At the end, nobody ask for a serious pokemon anime except for losers. Real fans wanted Pokémon to be as fun and compelling as the Original/DP series.

The main self insert was Alain, many writers use side characters as their self insert so readers wouldn't suspect them.
