If I had to guess, Shogakukan or whoever manages Matsumoto's rights want to do a separate launch of her songs, with promotion and stuff (see Matsumoto's recent performance of Mezase on The First Take youtube channel, the official English(!!!) Pokemon Channel released a remix of Mezase a few days ago, and her recent performance of the OG 4kids opening).
Shogakukan wants to slowly introduce Matsumoto to the international audience, and specifically as a part of the "Pokemon" brand.
I mean, the XYZ opening is legit fire, famous, easy to go viral, I like it.
Her other Pokemon songs (the pre Gen6 stuff) is kinda obscure to the average Pokemon fan so maybe they want to capitalize on that??? I don't know how to react honestly, I mean they're good songs but is it morally okay to prefer them over the 4kids stuff? I mean wouldn't that slowly erode the English PokeFandom as a distinct community???
Am I just schizo ranting by this point?
