I don't see why, Alain wasn't even relevant by this point in the series, also by the same logic neither are Ash who almost "defeated" Diantha in XY or Iris which became a champion off-screen, so by holding titles we are mean to assume they are on similar levels now, it doesn't reinforce that idea anyway because even other champions struggle against Leon.
I argue not showing how Alain progressed during this time was also stupid, but that would make instantly a XYfag or something like that.
