I am a returning XYfag and I am more hyped about Korirna return but it is mostly because it implies we will see other old characters coming back in the future. Lt. Surge being mentioned was promising but getting a very important XY character to show up in person and battle Ash again means we might get old companions, other gym leaders and old rivals back. Raihan looks sick in motion tho and makes me hyped about the world tournament format even more.

I've noticed that these people tend to be younger fans, who grew up with DP or later. Many of the SMfags and PM2019 on Twitter actually started watching the anime during XY, and don't have much if any experience with earlier seasons. You'll notice that online, particularly on forums but to a lesser extent on Twitter as well, there's a correlation between disliking SM and being an AG/DP/XYfag since the later demographic tends to be older.
