That kind of cope has always been a thing, the "Hibert was supposed to be the new MC but the higher ups didn't want to get rid of Ash and they used Tobias as a brake" being really popular back in the day as the "they changed the episode" is now.

A more likely explanation was that the writers had always been writing towards a 'thematic' Ash victory but they fumbled by unintentionally/intentionally hyping up a victory- underestimating the backlash. It's kind of how Marvel pissed off their fans by bringing in a fake Fox Quicksilver for a dick joke, and thinking they could get away with it again like they did Mandarin.

Whatever it's still funny. As a boomer who watched the original Ash losing streak it was hilarious seeing so many hype it up only for Ash not to deliver...and then he goes and wins a gimp league!

Nope, the DPfags/Dawnfags are shit too. Remember that they were the denialfags and baiters and have also done their share to lower the quality of the threads. The ones currently here are just as bad as the XYfags if not worse.

With that said, at least DPfags don't attack other seasons, aren't stuck on DP, and actually discuss PM outside of DP-related episodes. This doesn't mean they aren't shit (they are), they just manage to blend in and move on better than XYfags ever did.

That's more to do with the fact that many XYfags basically only like XY as far as the anime goes, and thus have moved on from the anime for the most part. I don't even say that in a pejorative way, because I myself don't really care much about the anime apart from XY. XY had a very different feel from the rest of the anime in so many ways.

This gets thrown around a lot, but I don't really see it anymore. There seems to be this undestanding that XY is at the top of every anipoke fan's list, that may have been the case when it was airing but definitely not anymore.

/padt/ mostly consists of Dawnfags. Serebii has more DPfags than XYfags. Reddit has about an equal number of both. Twitter seems to be mostly filled with DPfags. The two most recent poke-tuber rankings i could find both put DP at the top of their list etc etc.

Maybe it's just because of the gen 4 remakes and the Sinnoh focus but you'd be hardpressed to suggest that XY is still the favorite in the west.
