What does this mean?? Well, GeekChic will be canon, and Ash will be still traveling alone with Pikachu when gen. VII happens, but writers will find a way to tie him with that Cerulean witch or with a last minute anime-exclusive obnoxious-but-cute girl from Kanto (you know, the typical secondary character from every anime whose existence is tied to the MC's existence).
It would be sad for amourfags, but that's the way anime couples work. Idiot MC will be always tied with the short tempered and emotionally unstable tomboy and nerdy characters will be paired up with the girly girl fashionista.
