A full week of constant, burning agony as the acids break her down. Slowly. So slowly. She’ll feel her skin blister, her muscles liquefy. She’ll be conscious for most of it. Screaming, I imagine. Not that anyone will hear.”
Cynthia’s breath hitched in a sob. A week?
“We’ve done this before, of course,” Aldith said, her tone casual, cruel. “A Pokémon Ranger named Solana. Nosey little thing, trying to interfere with our operations in Fiore. My Seviper enjoyed her quite a bit. Do you know what was left? Nothing. Not a bone, not a strand of hair. Just her radio equipment, which we tossed in a river. The rest… well, she fertilized a lovely patch of forest. You’ll be joining her, in a way. Sinnoh soil will be rich with champion.”
Solana… The name was a distant memory, a missing persons report Looker had once mentioned in passing. Cynthia felt a new, deeper layer of dread solidify in her gut, which was already churning with nausea. It was real. This was her fate. To be… to be waste.
“And you won’t be the last,” Aldith sang. She must have activated a radio. A crackle echoed in the digestive chamber. “Report. Status on the Nimbasa contingency?”
A distorted voice replied. “Target Elesa has been secured. The Serperior is feeding now. Process is optimal.”
“Excellent. Relay my compliments to the handler. Tell him Ghetsis will be pleased.”
Another crackle, then a new, chillingly familiar voice—smooth, cultured, and utterly devoid of mercy. “Aldith. Your report signifies a pivotal moment. The conquest of Sinnoh begins with the fall of its figurehead. You have exceeded expectations. Admin status awaits upon your return. No one… will be spared.”
The transmission ended. Cynthia’s heart, already hammering against her ribs, felt like it would burst. Elesa too. And Ghetsis himself… knows. He approves. This was a coordinated culling. And Aldith had just been promised a promotion over her dissolving body.
