>>58588128, but thinking about it more because it is a subject I've thought a lot about, I think another part of it is that she's not the main character (in DP) but essentially plays the role of one. Like literally I think a lot of what I dislike about her could've maybe been partially alleviated if her name was Diamond and the focus of the story was shifted just a bit so that it was clear the arc was meant to center on her.
(also maybe name the rival character Platinum and have HIM doing the Battle Frontier in the third-version arc because IDK, he has daddy issues or something and you can explore the relationship with his father)This status of her not being the MC but being treated like one gives her the feeling of a side character warping the plot to be all about herself, and also does a disservice to Diamond/Pearl as characters because for most of the plot it feels like they're existing just to serve her:
>omg we have to go to Mt. Coronet so Platinum can make a super special accessory for herself, this somehow would be an accomplishment for her even though she's handheld and coddled by us and her money literally every step of the way>omg let's just stand on the sidelines of a gym and cheer for Platinum for like the 5th time, this is totally exciting and fun. also let's never use our own Pokemon ever because we have no interest in that, for some reason>we must bow to Platinum's every whim because we don't want to upset her, it's all about Platinum. also we're willingly her bodyguards now and not just pretending anymore to get a free rideIt's not a popular opinion because I always see actual fans of it say the opposite, but the arc only starts getting acceptable once they all split up because you can finally see characters take individual actions based on more than just What Does Platinum Want, and have Diamond/Pearl feel like MCs for once and not just glorified side characters.
