It was done as a funny memeship, rarely portraying any sincere love, but a few of the ironic fans started becoming unironic (though for the vast majority, it was a memship people were having fun with, with Koharu portrayed as in love with Ash's newly fattened wallet and his newfound fame). The announcement of the Likoanime and Ash's departure basically killed /vp/'s Satokoha obsession dead, though, leaving only a small remnant. Now that's the backstory for Satokoha posting on /vp/ in general. As for how /dg/ and pearlfag factors in, some time after, there was a particularly bad period where one Dawnfag would make an ass out of himself raiding the threads of other girls, as well as /padt/, starting flamewars and overall spamming, and then trying to play it off when called out. Back then, there were IP counters in the threads, so his samefagging was obvious and, on more than one occasion, he was exposed, in more than one thread. He would always brush it off and keep posting, but it eventually got so bad that a wide array of /vp/ anons were sick of him. As a response, one particular Satokohafag made it his autistic mission to stalk pearlfag across the board, and camp out in /dg/ itself, replying to all his pearlshipping posts with Koharu and Satokoha. 2+ years later and that Koharufag, or possibly a successor, is still here. >>58189491 suggests, there is proof that at least one of the jannies is a Koharufag, and possibly a Satokohafag at that, since Koharuposts over the years have been protected while anti-Koharu posts, even ones calling out Koharu spam here, have been nuked and their posters warned.
