>>57626202You're assuming I dislike Dudunsparce. On the contrary, I love it, and I also love the absurdity of its segmented forms, especially because it actually plays into the rarity for enthusiasts who collect ribbons for their Dunsparce since it's one of the few Pokemon who are allowed to carry the National Ribbon, and now they want to hope it evolves into Three Segment to have one of the ultimate flexmons, even more so if they somehow lucked out on getting a SHINY Dunsparce from Colosseum.
I'm not at all disagreeing that there's a joke in there, but it's not the same kind of punchline as Farfetch'd. Farfetch'd is specifically presented as a "fuck you" to the player if they trade their Spearow right before it's poised to evolve, because now you're stuck with the absolute worst of the Normal/Flying bunch and have to go raise another Spearow once you realize Farfetch'd sucks ass. It's the same kind of "fuck you" as finally getting the Old Rod in gen 1 in hopes of finding better water types than that shitty Magikarp you gave up on, only to find out all it can fish up is... more Magikarp.
Dunsparce isn't at all a terrible mon, even when it debuted, it's basically a typical earlygame mon where it's useful for the first few gyms before it starts to lag behind due to its lower stats, but it actually has chances to shine thanks to Glare, a move that otherwise forces you to drag around a shitty Ekans until it evolves into Arbok, who you'll only use for a short while before you replace it anyway.
With Farfetch'd, you have no reason to use it aside from dex filling. Fearow is already RIGHT THERE by the time it's available, and then further into the game Dodrio comes in.
And whereas Farfetch'd has remained awful, even with a cope in the form of the Stick held item, Dunsparce continued to prosper as a weird but not worthless pick thanks to later gens expanding its movepool (Yawn, Roost, Coil, etc.) and giving it the extremely useful Serene Grace.
