What should be the strongest trained pokemon put less of a battle than COTD's and the battles are underwhelming as fuck. The whole episodes feel like powerpoints with some 5 seconds sakuga moments that feel disjointed because they are clearly pieces of work made by the 2 talented animators left OLM has working on this series.
Half the Pokemon feel like they're made of crystal. Steven's Aggron died to fucking burn damage. Iris' Dragonite dropped to an Iron Head from a MILOTIC, and the best part is that apparently incredibly strong Milotic then proceeded to drop just as easily against Ash.
The pokemon taking hits or not depending on how strong their plot armor is is more evident than ever. In one hand you have Pokemon like Gengar dropping in 1 hit, in the other pokemon like Sirfetch take 4 or 5 hits and still pull a tremendous amount of work.
Strategies that seem cool at the beginning (Garchomp Stealth Rock) ultimately lead to fucking NOWHERE because the writers dont know what the fuck to follow up it with. They just go "ah yes rocks very smart sasuga cynthia" just for her to make the ebin surprised face when Ash takes the rocks out, instead of taking advantage of the duck having no shield.
Lance and Steven were just sad to look at. Iris was fine. Alan was literally a cardboard with almost no dialogue. Diantha got the spotlight only for the writers to immediately shit on her character. Cynthia did a complete 180 in personality from vs Iris to vs Ash. And LEON.
