Like its modern day recovery as a franchise is honestly stunning considering zero games came out and all that really got attention was the card game doing obscenely well, scraps of sakuga in Adventure 2020 and Ghost Game's generally consistent ok quality.
Think about it. Any other monster series that fumbled half as hard as Digimon faded away into nothing. Digimon made a soft comeback to pop culture by basically doing fuck all but releasing some more media here and there.
Had Digimon been owned by companies who actually gave a shit it could have been more of a mainstream franchise. Nowadays you see it more as a cult of nostalgic old fans supporting it no matter what and a shorthand for Pokemon people don't like because nobody who owned Digimon knew what the fuck to do with it when it became successful
