A thing many people forget that it exists. Serena initially was travelling with the group only because of her crush of Ash. It changed during the course of the series, she finally found a thing she was passionate about and wanted to pursue it even if it meant parting ways with Ash and co. She developed as a character greatly thqnks to the people and pokemon who were surrounding her. She found her own way.
